13 Moons:
A Year-long Training in Personal Shamanic Practices
13 Moons:
A Year-long Training in Personal Shamanic Practices
This is a year-long series of classes, and is akin to an apprenticeship. We meet once a month, sometimes for a single day, sometimes for both days of a weekend. Our focus over these thirteen sessions is on building a strong personal spiritual practice in shamanism. For some, this IS the goal. For others, this course helps create a solid foundation for moving into the shamanic healing practices.
The next 13 Moons training will begin in April 2012.
Among the projected topics we’ll cover:
— Journeying in the shamanic realms, including Upper, Middle and Lower Worlds
— Building strong and trusting alliances with one’s own Power Animals and Guides
— Ethical considerations and working from a place of compassion
— Working with Spirits of Nature
— Crafting tools for spiritual use (including pouches, spun cords, rattles and masks)
— Creating ritual and ceremony; working with seasonal themes and energies
— Psychopomp and afterlife-related work (aka Death & Dying)
— Working with ancestor and descendant spirits
— Working with the ecologically-based Medicine for the Earth and Healing with Spiritual Light material
— Creation of community within the group for continued studies and support
— Techniques for personal healing
— Shamanic and other means of divination
— Projected: Wild-area field trip, museum visit, sweat lodge
and much more
At the deepest heart of this year’s work is - vitally - the creation of a vibrant personal path within the practice of shamanism.
Times: For all meetings: (9:30 AM doors) 10 AM to about 5:30 PM with a lunch break midway; there are occasional evening sessions. Class dates for the 2012-2013 series will generally be on the first full weekend of each month, meeting either on both days or just on the Saturday.
Location: We meet in a private Denver-area location, though there will be several “day trips.”
Costs: All tuition costs are on a sliding scale within this specific range:
Two-day, full-weekend sessions are $95 to $140.
Single-day meetings are $50 to $75.
Following an initial deposit, tuition is paid by the month.
To help foster the group’s continuity and cohesion, this training asks a good-faith year-long commitment from participants. If you’re sure, great! If you aren’t sure, sleep on it, journey on it. Participants should plan to attend all classes, and to do a realistic amount of independent work between meetings. There is generally no provision for making up missed classes.
If you’re interested in learning more about this extended training, please contact me by email AFTER you do a bit of journeying about this with your own guides, to ask them how this training might be a good next-step for you. Then you and I can find a time to meet one-on-one and discuss our mutual expectations and responsibilities for the training. (We might be working together for the next year... I’d like us all to make informed decisions before committing to that.)
