The Power Animal Journey: Intro to Shamanism

The ability to intentionally shift into a trance state and commune with the spirit plane is an asset to many spiritual paths, and the shamanic journey is one very dependable means of doing that.
This brief class is an experiential introduction to Core Shamanism through the experience of the power animal journey. If you’re wondering what shamanism is or how it might compliment (or BE) your spiritual path, this is a great place to start. There’s a bit of talk — explaining terminology, procedures and such — but then we move into the journey itself.
You may repeat this class in the future without charge, to refine your journeying technique, have some community, or simply to hear a live drum.
Beginning Shamanism - Weekend Workshop

How can we better embrace life with heart and spirit? We each have a personal direct-line to spirit, but may need some help to reawaken it. Shamanism is an ancient and profound pathway into spirit. It's practiced worldwide, with roots going back an estimated 50,000 years, and no matter what your genetic roots, chances are your distant ancestors engaged in some version of this practice. Shamanism is still here, and it still works. If it's ready to reawaken within you, please join us.
In this workshop, you'll meet your personal spirit guides and learn how to journey shamanically with them, for guidance, connection and enhanced well-being.
Especially for those
- who are new to shamanism, or
- who have taken a brief intro class, or
- who know the subject only through books
We’ll use this time to explore the Lower, Upper and Middle Worlds through a variety of journeys, trouble-shoot any questions that arise, consider the ethics and protocols of this practice, look a bit at the history of shamanism and its uses in healing, and then - yes! - do more journeying.
The emphasis is Core Shamanism but with a Craft influence: I've been blending Wiccan and shamanic practices since 1988. This is an experiential workshop, so please bring your drums and rattles, in addition to good intentions and active curiosity. No prior experience is necessary.

About Shamanic Workshops:
I’ve been teaching the basics of shamanic journeying since 1989, received most of my training through Michael Harner’s Foundation for Shamanic Studies, and recently completed Sandra Ingerman’s rigorous two-year-long Teachers’ Training. This is often called Core Shamanism, but over the past two decades, my personal practice has evolved organically and probably doesn’t always follow the relatively-strict Harner definition. The two-hour introductory class on the basic Power Animal journey is offered in the Denver area several times throughout the year.
